Zia Mohyeddin was a multi-talented personality. Born on 20 June 1931, he was the son of the renowned Khadim Mohyeddin. Khadim was a well-known playwright, lyricist, musicologist, and mathematician, and member of several theater companies.

Zia Mohyeddin spent his childhood in Kasur and Lahore. Later, he received training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London from 1953 to 1956. After making his theater appearances in Julius Caesar and Long Day’s Journey into Night, the veteran Actor made his West End debut in A Passage to India at the Comedy Theatre from 20 April to 3 December 1960.

Zia Mohyeddin gained recognition for his role in Lawrence of Arabia (1962), where he played Tafas and made his producing debut. Tafas was a biopic character – the Arab guide, Omar Sharif, who was shot for drinking water from the wrong well. Later, the Anglo-Pakistani celebrity had many appearances on TV and in movies. He performed in the UK for about 47 years as an Actor.

How Did Zia Mohyeddin Die?

Zia Mohyeddin died on 13 February 2023 at the age of 91. Various media outlets reported that the actor-filmmaker was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Karachi.

He had a fever and severe abdominal pain. Later ultrasound revealed that he had some intestinal issues. Following the surgery, Zia was shifted to the ICU ward of the hospital.

Today after the Zuhr prayer, the funeral prayer for the late Zia Mohyeddin will be recited in Imam bargah Yasrab in Defense Phase 4.
