The documents obtained by the outlet indicate that the causes of his demise were pulmonary edema, fluid accumulation in the lungs, respiratory insufficiency, and acute heart failure.
Medical authorities also identified atherosclerosis, a condition characterized by plaque buildup in the inner lining of arteries, as an underlying issue.
Liotta died in his sleep in May 2022 while filming “Dangerous Waters” in the island nation. He was survived by his 24-year-old daughter, Karsen, and fiancée Jacy Nittolo, who was with him during the shoot.
In an Instagram tribute, Nittolo expressed her love and admiration for Liotta, describing him as “the most beautiful person inside and out that I’ve ever known…and even that is an understatement.”
Just days before Liotta’s sudden death, he and Nittolo were photographed holding hands in California after leaving an Italian restaurant.
Liotta was honored with a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in February 2023, with his daughter accepting the award on his behalf.
During the ceremony, Karsen praised her father, calling him a “one-of-a-kind actor and the best friend, brother, and father anyone could have asked for.”
Liotta’s cause of death provides some closure for his fans, who were deeply saddened by his passing. However, his legacy continues through his impressive work, including iconic roles in movies like “Field of Dreams” and TV shows like “Shades of Blue.”
