King Charles toasts grandson Archie on his 4th birthday in a private family gathering

As per recent reports, King Charles celebrated his grandson Archie’s fourth birthday by toasting to him.

The toast occurred during a private family gathering for lunch on Saturday, following King Charles’ historic coronation at Westminster Abbey and the family’s appearance on the Buckingham Palace balcony in London. King Charles toasts

The Daily Mail reported that the King toasted “those that weren’t there” and wished Prince Archie a happy birthday “wherever he was.” The toast was described as a “very sweet moment” by an insider.

Archie’s father, Prince Harry, left the UK shortly after to join his wife, Meghan Markle, Prince Archie, and their daughter Princess Lilibet in California.

Prince Harry did not attend the private lunch, nor was he invited to join the King, Queen Camilla, Prince William, Kate Middleton, and other royal family members in the iconic box following the coronation.

Instead, the Duke of Sussex traveled to the airport shortly after Saturday’s crowning ceremony at Westminster Abbey. The church service began at 11 a.m., and Prince Harry left for California shortly after.

The Duke of Sussex came to the coronation ceremony without his wife, Meghan Markle, who stayed back with their young children.

The couple relocated to Meghan’s home state after returning from their royal roles in January 2020. Buckingham Palace announced in April that Harry would attend the coronation ceremony and Meghan would not.

As for Archie’s celebration, a source previously shared with PEOPLE in April that the party was planned to be “low-key” and held at the family’s home.

Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, and friends were expected to attend the gathering. Archie’s little sister Lilibet was also set to be part of the festivities. The source added that Archie adores Lili and always asks about her when she’s not around.

The celebration of Archie’s birthday by the Royal family may have been a moment of reprieve from the controversies that have surrounded them in recent times.

Meghan and Harry have been outspoken about their struggles with the Royal family and faced much backlash, particularly after their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey. Nevertheless, Archie’s birthday was a time for the family to come together and celebrate, as any family would.
