Former UFC star Nate Diaz wanted by New Orleans police on suspicion of second-degree battery

Former UFC fighter Nate Diaz was issued an arrest warrant by the New Orleans Police Department on Monday on suspicion of second-degree battery, according to police spokesperson Karen Boudrie.

Former UFC Star Nate Diaz Wanted on Second-Degree Battery Charges Following Brawl in New Orleans

Diaz, who is not currently in custody, was involved in a brawl last week following a Misfits boxing card in New Orleans. A video surfaced on social media showed Diaz choking YouTube personality Rodney Petersen until he was unconscious in the middle of a melee involving several others.

Police officers were alerted to a “large altercation” on Bourbon Street at around 2:10 a.m. on Saturday, according to Boudrie, who added that witnesses alerted police to a white male believed to be unconscious.

The man regained consciousness, and officers observed he was “bleeding from the rear of his head.” Emergency medical services were called to aid the man. “After investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for Nate Diaz,” Boudrie said. “He has been charged with second-degree battery.”

Petersen, who resembles fellow influencer Logan Paul, can be seen confronting Diaz in the video, with other people fighting on all sides. Diaz locks Petersen in a guillotine choke submission until Petersen is unconscious and then drops him to the street below, where Petersen hits his head on the pavement.

Petersen posted a video on social media showing the head injury and said, “I don’t know what the hell I did to Nate Diaz. But I’m telling you what, I’m gonna knock him the fu*k out when I know he’s coming. You caught me off guard, dude. What did you think I was, Logan?”

Diaz, who fought out of his contract and departed the UFC last year, is set to face YouTuber-turned-prizefighter Jake Paul, brother of Logan, in a big-money boxing grudge match on August 5 Dallas. Diaz was present at the event to support his longtime teammate Chris Avila, who competed on the Misfits card and won against Paul Bamba.

Diaz had a verbal altercation with Chase DeMoor, a reality show star who fought on the card, earlier in the night. Diaz threw a water bottle at DeMoor, and the two were separated. DeMoor claimed in a video posted to Twitter on Sunday that Diaz and his team jumped him after the fights.

Diaz’s team has not yet issued a comment on the matter.
