In the first episode, titled “Love,” Seaborn reveals that she was diagnosed with cancer at the start of the year, which made her reflect on her mortality.

The news was difficult for Sheeran, who begins to get teary-eyed as he explains how it affected him. However, the singer says he coped with the pain by writing seven songs in four hours.

The docu-series gives fans a glimpse into Sheeran’s private life and struggles. He talks about how much Seaborn means to him and how everything in his life improved when she came into it.

The singer-songwriter is set to release his latest album, pronounced Subtract (but displayed as “-“), on Friday. Sheeran revealed that he poured his “deepest, darkest thoughts” into the album after a series of events changed his life, mental health, and how he viewed music and art.

“Writing songs is my therapy. It helps me make sense of my feelings. So I wrote without thought of what the songs would be. I just wrote whatever tumbled out,” he said.

Sheeran and Seaborn welcomed their second daughter in May 2022. The couple largely shies away from the spotlight, but Seaborn decided to be a part of the documentary because she wanted to reflect on what she would leave behind if she died. The Sum of It All will premiere on Disney+ on Wednesday, May 4.
