Ealy and Rafiqzada tied the knot in a private ceremony in Los Angeles in October 2012, after dating for over four years. However, news of their marriage only became public in December of the same year, as Ealy preferred to keep his personal life private.

Raised by his mother, who worked for International Business Machines Corporation, and his father, who worked in the supermarket industry, Ealy grew up in Silver Spring, Maryland, after being born in Washington, D.C.

After graduating from Springbrook High School and the University of Maryland in College Park with a degree in English, he began his acting career by performing in off-Broadway theater productions in the late 1990s. Ealy’s first film roles were in Kissing Jessica Stein and Bad Company.
