Joy Behar, the iconic host of The View, has opened up about her firing from the talk show in August 2013, stating that she was “happy to be fired” from the show. In an exclusive interview with Time in July 2022, Behar revealed that she was “basically sick of the show” and that being relieved of her duties was a welcome change.

Although Behar’s firing was initially a temporary one, it lasted for two years, during which she continued to guest co-host throughout 2014 and 2015. However, her absence from the show was short-lived, as she returned as a full-time panelist in the 19th season premiere in September 2015.

Joy Behar, born Josephine Occhiuto, is a Brooklyn native born on October 7, 1942, to Rose and Gino Occhiuto. Joy’s parents were of Italian descent and were Roman Catholic; her mother worked as a seamstress, and her father was a Coca-Cola truck driver.

Joy tied the knot with Joe Behar in 1965, and the couple had a daughter named Eve Behar Scotti. However, their marriage ended in divorce in 1981. Even though they parted ways, Joy chose to keep her ex-husband’s surname.

Joy has been in a long-term relationship with Steve Janowitz since 1982, and they eventually got married in 2011. The talk-show host revealed that she first met Steve at a semi-nudist colony, where he was naked when she first saw him. Joy currently resides in The Hamptons and also owns a house on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.
