A San Diego County teacher, Jacqueline Ma, who was awarded Teacher of the Year just last August, has been arrested and sent to the county jail for allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a 13-year-old student.
Jacqueline, who taught fifth and sixth-grade students at Lincoln Acres Elementary in National City, was accused of mistreating the student after a concerned parent alerted the National City Police Department on Monday.
The news release stated that Jacqueline had been charged with having an “inappropriate relationship” with the former student, and she was subsequently booked into the county jail.

Jacqueline Ma, a California elementary school teacher and recipient of the Teacher of the Year award last August, has been arrested and is currently being held without bail at Las Colinas Detention Facility.
The charges stem from an inappropriate relationship with a former student who was just 13 years old. The National City Police Department began investigating after a parent reported mistreatment of their child, resulting in probable cause and the subsequent arrest of Ma.
The teacher was later released on bail, but after further investigation, she was rearrested and jailed on multiple felony charges, including possession of child pornography and attempting to prevent or dissuade a witness or victim.
Due to the victim being a minor, police have refrained from providing specific information about the alleged criminal activity.

Jacqueline Ma, the former award-winning teacher who was arrested and booked into county jail for charges related to an “inappropriate relationship” with a 13-year-old former student, is married but no further details about her family have been disclosed.
Ma, who had been teaching in the district since 2013, won the San Diego County Office of Education award last year and expressed gratitude towards her students and supportive husband during the ceremony.
Colleagues praised Ma for her efforts to help Lincoln Acres Elementary adapt to remote teaching during the pandemic. However, National School District Supt. Leighangela Brady expressed deep concern over the situation during a board meeting and confirmed that Ma would not be returning to the campus.
Ma is being held without bail at a women’s detention facility and is facing multiple charges, including seven counts of possessing child pornography and four counts of sexual exploitation of a child.
She is also charged with two counts of committing lewd or lascivious acts with a child and one charge of attempting to prevent a witness from testifying.
