Drake Bell’s Wife Files for Divorce Following his Recent Controversies and Missing Report

Janet Von Schmeling, the wife of former Nickelodeon star Drake Bell, has filed for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences,” just a week after Bell’s disappearance and recovery in Florida. The dissolution of marriage petition was filed on Thursday in Los Angeles County’s Superior Court, and Von Schmeling, 28, is requesting legal and physical custody of their baby as well as spousal support. Bell’s representative has yet to respond to the news.

Last week, the 36-year-old actor was reported missing in Daytona Beach, Florida, after his brother Robert called the Orlando Police Department to report Bell’s suicidal statements following child custody concerns. He was later found safe, and according to a police report cited by TMZ, he claimed he did not want to be alive. A day after the incident, Bell joked about the situation in a now-deleted post on Twitter.

Bell, whose real name is Drake Campana, was seen enjoying a day at Sea World with his son days before the incident, according to a photo obtained by TMZ. In January, a source revealed that Bell and Von Schmeling had separated late last year but were “committed to maintaining a peaceful co-parenting relationship” for their son.

The couple confirmed their marriage and the birth of their son in a 2021 tweet, in which Bell denied false rumors, saying, “I have been married for almost 3 years, and we are blessed to be the parents of a wonderful son. Thank you very much to all my fans around the world for your good wishes.”

Bell, who gained fame for his roles on The Amanda Show and Drake & Josh, has made headlines for his behavior in recent years. In 2020, he was accused of verbal and physical abuse by his ex-girlfriend Melissa Lingafelt, which he denied. He was also charged with a misdemeanor in 2016 and served one day in jail for a 2015 DUI suspicion.

In June 2021, Bell was arrested for attempted child endangerment and disseminating matter harmful to juveniles. Although the victim, who was 15 at the time, accused him of sexual misconduct, Bell’s attorney disputed the allegations. He pleaded guilty to endangerment charges and was sentenced to two years of probation and 200 hours of community service, with orders not to contact the victim.
