A 44-year-old actress from ‘Elvis’ was found dead in her Nashville apartment

“Elvis” director Baz Luhrmann’s “Elvis” star Shonka Dukureh was found dead in her Nashville apartment. She was found unresponsive in her Kothe Way apartment’s bedroom by one of her children, who ran to a neighbor’s for assistance. The neighbor called the police at 9:27 a.m., according to authorities.

As reported by the police, She was 44 years old. The Nashville Police Department says no foul play is suspected but is still awaiting autopsy results from the Davidson County Medical Examiner.

Dukureh, a blues singer, played Big Mama Thornton in the blockbuster biopic about Elvis Presley’s rise to stardom released last month.

Nashville Mayor John Cooper shared his condolences Thursday, saying: “We honor her memory as she continues to inspire us with her incredible voice and artistry.”
